Ridgeviewarts.com was created from our desire to create unique one of a kind metal sculpture, jewelry, pet memorials, tributes, pet cards, mixed media art work and to expand and encourage Scrimshaw as a unique American art form.
Ron has taken various art classes and workshops in jewelry making, metal work, and black smithing. He started to explore scrimshaw when he attended a knife show with his then girl friend but now wife and saw a handle with scrimshaw. He didn't know what it was and Pam explained it was a past time sailor at sea used to carve into whale bone with a needle and soot. From there he confiscated one of Pam's dogs' bones and made his first piece of scrimshaw. Since that time he has published a book on learning how to scrimshaw, taught classes at J.C. Campbell Folk School, individual classes and has sold his work in various galleries. Pam at one time also scrimshawed but the tedious work made it difficult for arthritic fingers.
Pam got involved in Pet Memorials, cards and mixed media when involved in dog rescue. She frequently had to photo edit pictures of animals available for adoption. From that she also started making pet cards and Memorials. That lead her to explore Mixed media art in her work. That again led to another trail of Mixed Media Art. She is now delving into encaustic wax.
They both enjoy their passion for creating unique handcrafted items.
Both Ron and Pam have retired from nursing and both have worked with Homeless Veterans as well as homeless animals. They now have time to pursue their always present passion of art.
